No rest for the bookish during trade show season. ALA Annual is on the horizon and being hosted this year in our nation’s capitol, Washington D.C. starting June 21, – June 24. Visit our ALA Campaign Headquarters at Booth #2333 to explore and experience all of our Baker & Taylor campaign fun. We are proud to be Believers in Books and Leaders in Literacy as we have remained dedicated to supporting librarians to lead the future of literacy and learning since 1828.  

We have a jam-packed exciting schedule lined up with several author signings and booth activities including a coffee bar, popcorn station, photo booth and cat mascot photos with our beloved Baker and Taylor. And if that isn’t enough to get you in the spirit, you must stop by and pick up your special edition commemorative giveaways to celebrate this occasion. Next up: ALA Annual in New Orleans starting June 21, until June 26. Baker & Taylor has been supporting librarians to lead the future of literacy and learning since 1828. Announcing the ALA Youth Award Winners

Something tells me everyone’s reading list just got a little longer today. With so many amazing children’s and teen titles honored at today’s American Library Association’s 2018 Youth Media Awards, we know ours did.

This morning, in Denver, ALA announced the top books for children and young adults, including the prestigious Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards. ICYMI, here are the winners:

Sunday, June 25 at 3:30 p.m. – How to Move the Needle on Diversity: An Idea Huddle with We Need Diverse Books and Kirkus Reviews

In August, Baker & Taylor will be launching a partnership with Kirkus Reviews on a promotion of a collection of curated diversity centered titles. They will be teasing this launch in our booth with signage and collateral and a Diversity Huddle on Sunday. Presenters include Dhonielle Clayton, COO and Senior VP of Librarian Services of We Need Diverse Books and Meg Kuehn, CEO of Kirkus Reviews. The session will be moderated by Vicky Smith, the Children’s and Teen Editor of Kirkus Reviews.

Baker Turns 35!

In 1983, two librarians at the then-newly built Douglas County Public Library in Minden, Nev. had the idea to adopt two cats to work in the library keeping rodents away. Their working role, however, evolved into much more as the pair of Scottish Folds stole the hearts of the small town and eventually became Baker & Taylor’s very own mascots, appropriately named Baker and Taylor.
